Buying your first guitar
The first question is whether to buy new or used. For a first guitar it’s often a good idea to go with something second hand. Gumtree and eBay usually have a good amount of decent quality used guitars. Some brands are better than others when it comes to build quality at lower prices, with Yamaha and Fender being great manufacturers of acoustics, while Squire and Epiphone are good brands for electrics.
Most manufacturers will create smaller versions of their popular guitars to cater to children. A three quarter size is usually small enough for most children (even if it’s a little too large at first it should be the right size for a few years) though for children aged around five to seven years a half size guitar may be more suitable.
